Doing crunches have to be done properly. You have to pull yourself up with your abs slowly. Lie with your arms behind your head, knees bent. Then holding your abs in, slowly lift up and touch your feet or as far as you can, then slowly lie back down, do this 10 times, have a rest and repeat 10 times (no more). Don't do it every day, do it every other day. That is the first part. if you are dedicated you can easily devise an incline board and a ladder structure, you can buy hooks from a DIY shop to screw to the board so that you can hook it on the ladder, that should be securely screwed to the wall.
When you find this easy and no aching, you need to devise an incline bench, which is a board leaning on something like a ladder on a wall, put the board on the first rung, lie on it and repeat the exercise, in 2 sets of 10 (you will find a big difference), when that is easy, move up a rung, until the board is nearly vertical (you will have to put a belt around the top of the board (to hook your feet through) to stop you sliding off. When you have reached the top of the ladder and find you can do it with ease (this is the really hard part) turn yourself around so your head is at the top of the board and you are lifting your feet up to touch the wall. It will still take quite a few months to get visible abs.
